Overview

Coalition Helping Organize a Kleaner Environment (CHOKE) is a Long Island City community group based out of the North Queensview Housing Cooperative that advocates for cleaner energy generation and a safer, cleaner environment. In partnership with 1st Rochdale Energy Cooperative, a New York City based energy cooperative, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and Clean Air Communities (CAC), CHOKE is conducting a duel-fuel burner installation and boiler optimization program at the Queensview housing cooperative. Together, the project partners are holding an Energy Star appliance and lighting fair in conjunction with burner upgrade, made possible by CAC funding

Benefits

The project gains energy and environmental benefits from the replacement of outdated, out of tune burners that inefficiently consume residual grade fuel oil. The new system will be capable of burning both oil and natural gas, operate more efficiently, and lower total fuel consumption, resulting in less total pollutant output. This project has been funded by Clean Air Communities in the amount of $128,000.00. The total project value, including leveraged funds, in-kind contributions, and capital outlays by Queensview, exceeds $350,000.00.
